Edinburg Launches 14th Annual ‘Edinburg Cares’ Food Drive to Support Local Families

Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg is calling on residents to help make the holidays brighter for local families through the 14th Annual Edinburg Cares Food Drive, organized by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The yearly effort helps ensure families across Edinburg can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal without financial strain.

In partnership with the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District and H-E-B, city staff will distribute 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 food baskets to pre-selected families on Saturday, Nov. 22. A kickoff ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department, 315 Mark S. Peña Drive, before volunteers begin deliveries.

Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables, fruit, stuffing, and gravy mixes through Nov. 18. Donation boxes have been placed at the following locations across the city:

  • Edinburg City Hall, 415 W. University Drive
  • Edinburg Police Department, 1702 S. Closner Boulevard
  • Central Fire Station, 212 W. McIntyre Street
  • Edinburg Parks and Recreation, 315 Mark S. Peña Drive
  • Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, 1212 S. 25th Avenue, Suite B
  • Texas T Barbershop, 1303 S. McColl Road
  • Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library, 1906 S. Closner Boulevard
  • All Edinburg CISD Schools

The city is also seeking volunteers to assist in sorting donations, filling food baskets, and making deliveries on the day of distribution.
