Chamber Expands Venue for Edinburg Candidate Forum Amid High Demand

Staff Report
Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce has expanded the venue for its upcoming Public Affairs candidate forum, citing overwhelming community interest.
Originally planned for a smaller space, the Oct. 9 forum will now be held in the auditorium of the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, increasing seating capacity from 300 to 800. Chamber leaders said the change reflects the strong response from both businesses and residents.
The event, part of the Chamber’s Public Affairs Series launched in 2006, will feature candidates in the upcoming city elections. Confirmed participants include mayoral candidates Johnny Garcia, Richard Molina and Omar Ochoa, along with council candidates Jason De Leon and Dan Diaz. The forum will be moderated by Sergio Sanchez of KURV 710 News Talk Radio. Other candidates may be added as they confirm their attendance.
To maintain fairness, organizers emphasized that no political materials, signage or campaign propaganda will be allowed inside the venue. Invitations were extended to all candidates, and the Chamber noted it remains open to additional participants who wish to join.
Seating remains limited despite the expansion. Of the 800 seats, 300 will be available to the general public through online registration, while Chamber members will have access through a separate RSVP link. The event is free but requires advance registration.
For those unable to attend in person, the forum will be livestreamed on KURV 710 AM, YouTube and social media platforms.
The Chamber, which has served the business community for 100 years, said it aims to provide an informative and respectful platform that encourages civic engagement.
