EDINBURG TX — A 21-year-old Edinburg man has been charged with murder after fatally shooting his brother during a domestic dispute late Friday night, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a 911 call from David Flores at approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 1, 2025, at a residence in the 1500 block of Monte Bello Lane in Edinburg. Upon arrival, Flores informed deputies that he had argued with his brother, Gilberto Flores, before shooting him twice.

Gilberto was found with two gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. Investigators interviewed witnesseswho reported that the dispute escalated between Gilberto and family members, including David, before David pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

David Flores provided a voluntary statement, claiming that his brother lunged at him before he fired. Initially charged with aggravated assault, his charges were later upgraded to murder after Gilberto succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

On Sunday, David Flores received a $100,000 bond and remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
