Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Crash in Edinburg

EDINBURG, Texas – A 20-year-old driver was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a pickup truck early Sunday morning authorities said.

According to the Edinburg Police Department, an officer spotted a vehicle running a red light at Sugar and Trenton Road shortly after 2 a.m. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, identified as Marcos Diego Dominguez, turned off his headlights and continued driving.

Dominguez accelerated despite police activating emergency lights, running another red light at Trenton and Business 281 before colliding with a white pickup truck.

The elderly couple in the truck sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. Dominguez was also hospitalized for injuries from the crash. Upon his release, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest, and reckless driving.

The Edinburg Police Department is continuing its investigation.
