EDINBURG, TX – A 64-year-old Edinburg resident celebrated a fresh start Tuesday as she received the keys to her newly reconstructed mobile home during a ceremony hosted by Precinct 4 Hidalgo County Commissioner Ellie Torres, the Hidalgo County Urban County Program (UCP), and community partners.
The new home, provided in partnership with Clayton Homes CMH Homes, Inc., replaces the resident’s previous substandard mobile home, which was demolished as part of the UCP’s Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program. The initiative provides assistance to low-to-moderate-income homeowners, focusing on mitigating the deterioration of unsafe or unsanitary housing and improving living conditions.
The program works collaboratively with eligible homeowners and contractors to maintain existing housing stock that is decent, safe, and affordable. “While the application process can be lengthy, this program gives qualifying residents the opportunity to significantly enhance their quality of life,” officials noted.
The recipient of the new mobile home had been on the waitlist since 2019 and was finally able to apply in October 2023. Tuesday’s “Key-Hand Off” Ceremony marked the culmination of her journey to secure a safe and comfortable home.
