Edinburg Police Host “When Sean Speaks” to Raise Awareness on Drunk Driving
Staff Report
EDINBURG, Texas — The Edinburg Police Department is inviting the community to a poignant presentation, “When Sean Speaks,” aimed at raising awareness about the devastating consequences of drunk driving. The event will take place on Monday, December 4, at 6 p.m. at Edinburg City Hall.
“When Sean Speaks” tells the story of Sean Carter, who survived a catastrophic drunk driving crash in 2005 that left him unable to speak or walk. Using an assistive communication device, Carter will share his powerful journey of resilience and reflect on the life-changing impact of one tragic decision.
The event is part of the department’s ongoing “Make a Plan” initiative, launched to encourage proactive measures to prevent impaired driving. Whether designating a sober driver, arranging alternative transportation, or using rideshare services, the initiative emphasizes the importance of planning ahead to avoid preventable tragedies.
“Drunk driving remains a serious issue in our community, and we want to ensure that every resident understands the risks and responsibilities that come with drinking and driving,” said Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala. “Sean’s story is a powerful reminder that we can all play a part in preventing these senseless tragedies.”
Families, students, and residents of all ages are encouraged to attend and gain a deeper understanding of the far-reaching effects of impaired driving. The presentation is a call to action for the community to make responsible choices and safeguard lives on the road.
