Edinburg to host Joint Regional Hurricane Preparedness Press Conference May 22
Edinburg, TX, May 19, 2023 – With hurricane season quickly approaching, the City of Edinburg, in conjunction with the Texas Division of Emergency Management, Hidalgo County, Texas A&M Agri-Life, and the cities of McAllen, Mission, Pharr, and Weslaco, will host a Joint Regional Hurricane Preparedness Press Conference on Monday, May 22 at Edinburg City Hall at 9 a.m.
This multi-jurisdictional collaboration will provide residents with crucial information about their cities’ disaster response plans, past experiences, and available resources before and after a hurricane strikes.
A live cooking demonstration hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Hidalgo County Judge’s Office and Fire Marshal to show the community how to safely prepare food if they find themselves without power will be held immediately following the press conference. County Judge Richard Cortez, KRGV Chief Meteorologist Tim Smith, and Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. will participate in the demonstrations by preparing meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, respectively.
The press conference will be carried live on Facebook and on Spectrum Channel 1300. The cooking school will not be live-streamed.
