Edinburg Sales Tax Collections Slow In March, Remain Strong Over The Year

Edinburg TX, May 11, 2023 — Edinburg’s sales tax revenues slowed down in March of this year as the seasonal slowdown in retails sales set in after the Christmas holidays. Edinburg’s March 2023 sales increased only 0.72% compared to March of last year.

In all, Edinburg received $3,323,428.54 this month compared to $3,299,615.54 in May of last year. However, in the first three months of the year, from January through March, Edinburg maintained a strong retail base, increasing 7.08%, from $14.2M in the same period last year to $15.2M this year.

In comparison, Hidalgo County cities as a whole showed less strength overall. The county’s total for March 2023 we up only 1.08% compared to March of 2022. For the January through March period, the county total sales were up only 4.264%.

These revenues are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.
