Edinburg CISD Enrollment Up 5.6%

The Edinburg CISD saw a dramatic rise in enrollment this school year.
Dr. Eduardo J. Moreno, Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services Division, told ECISD Board members that enrollment was up as of the student census taken on January 6, 2023, during their first meeting of 2023.
Moreno said the school district had 33,899 students enrolled as of January 6 when students from the Winter break. According to data from Education Services Center Region One, ECISD reported student enrollment of 32,078 in February 2022. Compared to this month’s report, ECISD saw an increase of 1,821, a 5.67% increase in enrollment.
“Our campus principals are working on recruiting and retaining students. We are continuing to enroll students every day here in Edinburg CISD,” Moreno said. “As I’ve mentioned prior, it is a great credit to our great schools, our great teachers, our after school programs, and our early childhood programs.”
Moreno reported that the prekindergarten 3-year old and 4-year old programs had significant increases.
“It’s very encouraging to see,” said ECISD Board President Miguel “Mike” Farias. “There’s a reason why people are coming to Edinburg. It’s because of the service and the quality that we have here in Edinburg. It extends all the way from administration to the teachers to everybody who has a hand in servicing our kids. It’s a testament to your hard work. And we appreciate that very much.”
