Edinburg Library to Host Local Authors

An Evening of Poetry with Julieta Corpus, Anne Estevis, and Alyssa Canul

Edinburg, TX— The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the public to meet local authors Julieta Corpus, Anne Estevis, and Alyssa Canul. They will be promoting their latest books, Of Love and Departures/De Amor y Despedidas by Julieta Corpus, and Tattoos and Old Lace by Anne Estevis and Alyssa Canul at the library on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

You do not what to miss the reading of these three powerful local writers who will be sharing their ideas, emotions, and experiences through their thought-provoking written words. For example, learn how writing poetry became Julieta’s therapy to overcome the loss of her husband and helped her become stronger and more resilient.

In Of Love and Departures/De Amor y Despedidas, a collection of poems about love and loss, Julieta describes the passion, love, and endless details that filled the seemingly relatable moments of their relationship until cancer pried her inseparable companion from her arms—he who was the object of love she gave without reservation. Then, Julieta describes the transition from a feeling of hopelessness to acceptance through her discovery of the meaning of absence in everything around her and recognizing the presence of her beloved in the animate and the inanimate, which with him, she learned to love. Julieta understands she must continue on her journey, let go, and so she leaves without taking anything, for she has inhabited grief in its most intense expression, and now it is time to say goodbye to this story of love and departure.

Tattoos and Old Lace by Anne Estevis and Alyssa Canul. This book of poetry was written by a grandmother/granddaughter duo, providing poems across the ages, beginning with granddaughter Alyssa’s poems of childhood, teen years, and young adult. Next, Anne offers the reader her poems of the middle years and old age. The book culminates with tandem poems reflecting the relationship between the two women.

Join us for an evening of poetry reading that will inspire you to start writing.
