Voting Machines For November General Election To Be tested For Logic And Accuracy

All media and public are invited to take photos and video footage of the voting machines

EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Elections Department invites all media and public to view, take photos and video footage of the county voting machines as they undergo Logic and Accuracy (L&A) testing in preparation for the upcoming November 8, 2022 General Election and Local Entities Elections. The public and media are invited to view machines being tested on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Hidalgo County Elections Annex Building, (317 N. Closner Blvd., in Edinburg) at 9 a.m.

L&A testing is conducted on all voting machines before every election. The testing proofs the ballot and proves that the system is properly adding votes to each candidate in the same quantity as the votes that are entered on each machine. The testing also confirms that each candidate appears in the proper precinct, including split precincts and does not appear in precincts outside the candidate’s jurisdiction.

“The L&A testing of the voting machines also serves as a security measure that we have in place that ensures the ballot is going to be correctly administered during the election,” said Hilda A. Salinas, Interim Elections Administrator.

As per the Texas Election Code, during an election, media is not allowed within 100 yards of a polling location. Therefore, during this time, the media has an opportunity to take photos and video footage of the voting machines that will be used. The L&A testing of the voting machines is open to the public and all media is invited to attend.
