Edinburg and Mission Fire Fighters Charged with Aggravated Assault After Alleged Armed Confrontation in Rural Edinburg

EDINBURG TX – Two suspects have been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd degree felony, following an alleged armed confrontation in rural Edinburg on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies responded at approximately 11:51 a.m. to the 6100 block of Barb Mar Lane in reference to a reported terroristic threat.

The Incident

Preliminary information indicates that victims Samantha Rincon and Jonathan Garcia were traveling eastbound on Ingle Road from Barb Mar Lane when they encountered suspects Mark Quintanilla, 39, and Jessica Quintanilla, 38. According to the victims, Mark Quintanilla drove past their vehicle, made an obscene gesture, then turned around and aggressively stopped in front of them, blocking their exit.

According to the Sheriff’s office, Mark Quintanilla is reported to work as an Edinburg fire fighter, and Jessica Quintanilla is reported to be a Mission fire fighter.

The victims reported that Mark Quintanilla exited his vehicle holding a handgun and yelled at Garcia to exit his vehicle. Jessica Quintanilla then exited the front passenger side, at which time Mark handed her a black handgun, which she placed in her waistband. The victims further stated that Jessica Quintanilla made threatening remarks while reaching toward her waistband, causing them to fear for their lives.

Investigation

During the investigation, Mark Quintanilla admitted to investigators that he pursued the victims, leading to a verbal confrontation, and stated he had two handguns in his vehicle’s glove compartment. Jessica Quintanilla confirmed she had a firearm in her waistband and that Mark had handed her a handgun during the incident.

Bond has been set at $5,000 each. The investigation is ongoing.
