Local Municipalities To Host Regional Hurricane Preparedness Press Conference

Collaboration Aims to Prepare Region for the Impact of Natural Disasters

EDINBURG, Texas– In an effort to ensure our region is prepared for the start of hurricane season, the city of Edinburg in conjunction with Hidalgo County, Pharr, McAllen, Mission, Weslaco, and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, will be hosting a Hurricane Preparedness Joint Regional Press Conference on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the UTRGV Edinburg Campus-Ballroom at 10:30AM.

The conference aims to ensure residents feel safe and prepared for hurricane season. This collaboration allows these government entities to work together and share their plans, past experiences, and the resources available to the community before and after a natural disaster.

During the presentation, officials provide information regarding safety measures to take prior to a storm, throughout the storm, and after its landfall, as well as the necessary emergency communication/hotlines in anticipation of this season’s forecast. This opportunity will also allow community leaders in our region to discuss the importance of our local drainage system for all citizens residing in Hidalgo County, as the drainage system connects from one city to another. The press conference will be streamed live on the City of Edinburg-Government Facebook page and Spectrum Channel 1300.
