Library launches three-part Healthy Aging series Oct. 2

Staff Report
Edinburg, TX – Dustin Sekula Memorial Library will host a three-week Healthy Aging Series on Thursdays, Oct. 2–16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at 1906 S. Closner Blvd., offering practical guidance on nutrition, fitness and social well-being for older adults.

Presented in partnership with Prairie View A&M University Extension’s Family and Community Health program, each session blends education with a hands-on activity. Organizers say participants will make a holiday treat at every session.

The schedule includes:

  • Oct. 2 — “Fueling Your Golden Years”: Strategies to prevent disease and support bone health through informed food choices.
  • Oct. 9 — “The Core Pillars of Longevity”: A hands-on focus on functional strength training that mirrors everyday movements such as standing from a chair, carrying groceries and climbing stairs.
  • Oct. 16 — “Purpose & Connection”: The social and emotional aspects of healthy aging, emphasizing staying connected, finding purpose and maintaining a positive outlook.

City libraries often offer health and wellness programs as part of their lifelong learning mission, connecting residents with evidence-based resources and local partners. For details, contact the library’s Reference Department at (956) 383-6246.
