Staff Report
EDINBURG TX – The City of Edinburg has been ranked among the fastest-growing cities in the United States, according to newly released 2024 population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Edinburg’s population grew by 2.62 percent over the past year, increasing from 105,956 in 2023 to 108,733 in 2024. The growth places Edinburg 25th nationwide for fastest percentage increase among cities with populations over 100,000 and 10th in the state of Texas. It also stands as the fastest-growing municipality in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Edinburg is a city on the rise,” said Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. “This continued growth reflects the strength of our community and the results of our focused investments in quality of life, infrastructure, and economic opportunity.”
In a significant boost to local development, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) recently announced that Zoho Corporation, a global software company based in Austin, has acquired the historic Echo Hotel property. The company plans to redevelop the site into a modern office campus, expanding its footprint in the region and furthering Edinburg’s profile as a hub for business and innovation.
“Our growth rate confirms that people see Edinburg as a place to put down roots and pursue their dreams,” said Raudel Garza, EEDC Executive Director. “We’re leading the Rio Grande Valley not only in population growth but also in economic expansion.”
City leaders point to strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and business development as key drivers of growth. Edinburg’s focus on creating a welcoming environment for families and entrepreneurs has helped position it as a leader in South Texas.
The city, a four-time All-America City winner, continues to receive national recognition for its community-driven progress and development.
