Unloaded Firearm Found in Student Backpack at Edinburg North High

EDINBURG TX – An unloaded firearm was recovered from a student’s backpack Tuesday morning at Edinburg North High School following an anonymous tip, according to Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District officials.

Edinburg CISD police and school administrators responded swiftly to the report and detained the student before law enforcement made an arrest. No injuries were reported, and officials said there was no threat to students or staff during the incident.

The school district emphasized that established safety protocols were followed and additional precautions will remain in place for the time being.

“We remind families and students that reporting concerns—whether in person or anonymously—helps keep our campuses safe,” the district said in a statement.
