Edinburg Library to Host Community Engineering Design Challenge with NASA Exhibit Saturday, Feb 22

EDINBURG, Texas – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library will host the second Community Engineering Design Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1906 S. Closner Blvd., offering students an opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM activities alongside a special visit from NASA’s Mobile Exhibit Trailer.
Led by the facilitator of the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars program, the challenge is designed for middle and high school students to collaborate, build teamwork skills, and explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Participants will tackle a real-world design challenge while working with peers and STEM professionals.
Adding to the excitement, NASA’s Mobile Exhibit Trailer will be open to the public during the event. The interactive exhibit includes:
One of only nine touchable Moon rocks in the world
Eight 4K monitors showcasing NASA’s latest missions
Displays of astronaut food
A photo opportunity with an extravehicular activity (EVA) spacesuit
Hands-on astronaut training simulations with gloves and a helmet
The exhibit provides a rare chance for the community to explore NASA’s work, upcoming Moon missions, and the future of space exploration.
Through events like this, the library continues to promote literacy, inspire lifelong learning, and spark curiosity across all age groups.
