Edinburg Police Apprehend Robbery Suspect, Seek Public Assistance in Locating Second Culprit

Edinburg, TX, January 26, 2024 — In a late-night response to a reported robbery on January 15, 2024, Edinburg Police Department (PD) officers engaged in an investigation that led to the arrest of one suspect and the identification of another. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. at Smoke King located at 301 S. Sugar.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were briefed by the reporting party, who revealed that three males had targeted the business, making off with vape pens. The suspects fled the area in a pearl-colored Chevrolet Equinox.

After investigative efforts and surveillance, authorities identified 18-year-old Omar Ruiz of Edinburg as one of the culprits. Edinburg PD detectives apprehended Ruiz at his residence in the early morning hours of Friday, January 19, 2024.

The ongoing investigation has also led to the identification of a second suspect, 17-year-old Jesse Enrique Collet of Weslaco. A warrant for Collet’s arrest has been issued, and authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating him.
