Free dental clinic for underserved patients coming to Edinburg Sept. 15th & 16th
First pre-screening opportunity set for Saturday
Edinburg, TX, August 25, 2023 – Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. extends a warm welcome to the Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) initiative as it collaborates with a group of local dentists spearheaded by Dr. Carlos Cruz, Nuestra Clinica Del Valle, and the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency.
Together, they are organizing a complimentary dental clinic aimed at delivering vital dental services to underserved patients in Hidalgo County from September 15-16, 2023, at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg.
As highlighted by the American Dental Association, numerous adults grapple with poor oral health, which can profoundly impact their overall well-being and quality of life. This often stems from limited access or eligibility for programs providing essential dental care.
TMOM is working to address this pressing need by establishing four temporary dental clinics across Texas annually. During each two-day TMOM event, dedicated organizers and volunteer dental professionals join forces to administer appropriate dental care to those in need. The central mission of TMOM is to enhance dental care accessibility for the underserved population of Texas.
Over 50 volunteer dentists and approximately 450 volunteers from various dental professions, businesses, and community organizations are poised to offer charitable dental care to residents of Hidalgo County. The range of dental services, entirely free for patients, encompasses fundamental, pain-relieving, and preventive procedures like fillings and extractions.
Residents seeking dental assistance will receive care at the Bert Ogden Arena on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at 6 a.m. on both Friday, September 15, and Saturday, September 16. All age groups, from pediatrics to adults, are encouraged to attend; however, patients under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. To minimize wait times on the event day, attendees are advised to participate in a Pre-Screening session at Nuestra Clinica Del Valle.
Pre-screening opportunities are scheduled for this Saturday, August 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 801 W 1st St. in San Juan and September from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 611 Bryan Rd. in Mission.
