Edinburg TX – The Edinburg City Council will hold its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m., at City Hall Council Chambers, 415 West University Dr.
City Highlights
The council will note several upcoming city events, including the Boulevard of Heroes Unveiling Ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events Center; the Parks and Recreation 6th Annual 9/11 Patriot Day of Remembrance Memorial Run on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 a.m. at the Edinburg Fire Department; a 9/11 Ceremony and Remembrance Walk on Friday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m., also at the Edinburg Fire Department; and a Municipal Court Outreach Docket on Friday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at El Tule Recreational Center.
Proclamations
The council will present proclamations recognizing the Beast Mode 6U Select Softball Team as the 2026 McAllen PONY International World Series Champions, the City of Edinburg Rogue Boxing Team for state and national titles, and South Texas Health System Edinburg for its 2026-2027 Best Regional Hospital Award from U.S. News & World Report.
Public Hearing
The council will hold a public hearing on a special use permit for on-premise consumption of alcoholic beverages for late hours at 225 E. Cano St., requested by Barlex LLC, presented by Jaime Acevedo, director of planning and zoning.
Routine Public Hearings
The council will consider two routine rezoning items: a comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning at 5302 S. Jackson Road from commercial to residential multifamily, requested by Melden & Hunt, Inc.; and a rezoning at 1925 W. Mile 17 ½ Road from residential suburban to residential urban and townhome, requested by Luis Muro.
Ordinance and Variance
The council will consider temporary special use permits for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Annual Kermesse, set for Saturday, Sept. 5, and the 6th Annual HCDA Brides’ March, set for Saturday, Oct. 24, requested by the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office. The council will also consider a variance request for lot area standards for the proposed AMIG Subdivision at 598 E. Wisconsin Road, requested by HLG Plan Review Services.
Economic Development
The council will consider a resolution nominating Azteca Milling, L.P., located at 501 West Chapin Street, for Half Enterprise Project status to the Office of the Governor Economic Development and Tourism, presented by Raudel Garza, Edinburg EDC executive director.
Consent Agenda
The council will consider authorizing the purchase of 10 body-worn cameras and a subscription from Safefleet through a cooperative purchasing program, budget transfers for the general and utility funds, and the disposition of non-vital city records in accordance with state records retention schedules.
Executive Session
The council will convene in executive session to consult with the city attorney, discuss personnel matters, and consider the conveyance, exchange or lease of real property and economic development matters.
