ECISD to Require Clear Backpacks for Middle and High School Students Starting 2026-2027 School Year

Edinburg TX – Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District will require all middle and high school students to use clear backpacks beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, including sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at Brewster School. The policy does not apply to elementary schools.

District officials said the policy is intended to support campus safety and streamline entry procedures.

Policy Details

Backpacks must be clear plastic or vinyl and completely transparent, with no colored, tinted, or patterned designs. Mesh backpacks are not allowed.

A small non-transparent pouch or clutch bag, up to 6 inches by 9 inches, is permitted for personal hygiene or medical items.

School-issued athletics and fine arts bags are allowed but must be secured in the locker room or fine arts classroom upon arrival at school.
