Edinburg TX – The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees will consider a series of instructional program renewals, summer staffing approvals and facilities projects during its regular meeting scheduled for April 28, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. 

The meeting will begin with roll call, prayer, pledges and certification of public notice, followed by awards and recognition and the superintendent’s report, which includes an enrollment update as of April 24.

Graduation Costs and Consent Agenda Items

Trustees will consider several consent agenda items, including approval of services for upcoming graduation ceremonies.

The district is set to consider $45,000 for event hosting services at Bert Ogden Arena and $32,000 for audio and video hardware and production services.

The consent agenda also includes approval to discontinue obsolete print instructional materials and approval of minutes from the April 14 meeting. 

Summer Hiring and Instructional Program Renewals

Among the primary action items is approval of 2026 summer hires for curriculum writing, specialized summer programs and staff development.

The board will also consider multiple renewals of instructional programs and materials across grade levels.

These include Progress Learning online resources for kindergarten through fifth grade at a cost of $58,419.71 and MasteryPrep resources for grades 3 through 12 at $274,391.

Additional instructional renewals include Savvas foundational reading for kindergarten through second grade at $138,873.38 and Scholastic magazines for first through 12th grade students at $158,502.58.

Math program renewals include Pearlized Mathematics Consulting for grades K–1 at $74,670 and Sharon Wells Mathematics Curriculum for grades 2–5 at $160,000.

Trustees will also consider approval of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Writable digital writing program for grades 6–12 at $169,886. 

Instructional Materials and Technology Purchases

The agenda includes approval to purchase secondary mathematics instructional materials from state-adopted lists at a cost of $303,364.53.

Board members will also consider certification of the Texas Education Agency’s instructional materials provision survey for the 2026–2027 school year.

Additionally, the district is set to consider $98,156.25 for computer desktops for existing labs at Edinburg High School, Edinburg North High School, Economedes High School and Vela High School. 

Contracts and Facilities Projects

Trustees will review multiple contract renewals, including charter bus services at $75,000, garbage collection services outside city limits at $70,000 and iron and steel supplies at $85,000.

Facilities-related items include final completion approvals for roofing improvements at Canterbury Elementary totaling $737,675 and Cavazos Elementary totaling $582,000.

The board will also consider a negotiated fee of $447,969 for chiller replacement at Memorial Middle School. 

Closed Session Topics

The board is scheduled to meet in closed session to discuss legal matters, real property, personnel issues and security audits.

Specific items include potential employment of counselors at Magee Elementary School and the Juvenile Detention Center, superintendent personnel updates, and a Level III grievance hearing.

Trustees will also review intruder detection audit findings for multiple campuses, including Edinburg North High School, Economedes High School, Betts Elementary and Freddy Gonzalez Elementary. 

Action Following Closed Session

Upon returning to open session, the board may take action on personnel recommendations, grievance matters and other items discussed in closed session.

The meeting will conclude with adjournment following board action.
