Edinburg to open warming center at Sekula Memorial Library during cold weather

Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg will open a warming center Sunday evening at the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library to provide shelter and warmth for residents during forecasted cold weather conditions.

The warming center will be located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. and will operate overnight for two consecutive nights. Hours are scheduled from 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, through 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, and again from 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, through 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Cold weather safety measures

City officials said the warming center is intended to serve as a safe, indoor space for residents who may be vulnerable to cold temperatures. The facility will remain open overnight, while regular library hours will continue separately from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Residents planning to stay overnight are asked to bring any required medications, along with a pillow, blanket and non-perishable food or snacks.

Facility guidelines

Pets are not allowed at the warming center. City staff will be on site to assist and monitor operations during overnight hours.
