Edinburg police to host women’s self-defense classes in January

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg Police Department is offering a women’s self-defense course later this month aimed at providing participants with practical skills and personal safety strategies.

The program, based on the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system, will be held at the Edinburg Police Department Training Facility, 1309 N. Doolittle Road.

Course schedule and sessions

The three-day course will be offered during two separate sessions. Participants may register for one session only.

The first session is scheduled for Jan. 19, 21 and 23, with classes held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second session will take place Jan. 26, 28 and 30, also from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Eligibility and course focus

The class is open to females ages 18 and older. According to the department, the course is designed to provide education, awareness and hands-on defense techniques intended for situations involving physical assault.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for physical activity, as the course includes practical training components.
