Staff Report

Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg is encouraging residents to recycle their natural Christmas trees through its annual Tree Recycling Program, which runs from Jan. 5 through Jan. 30, 2026.

City officials said the program offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of holiday trees by converting them into mulch for reuse in city landscaping and conservation efforts.

Drop-off locations and hours

Residents may drop off bare, natural Christmas trees at the following locations during regular operating hours:

  • Resource Recovery Center, 3102 S. Business 281
  • Edinburg Regional Sanitary Landfill, 8601 N. Jasman Rd.
  • Edinburg Nature Trail Park, 1300 N. Doolittle Rd.

Operating hours vary by site, with weekday and limited weekend availability.

Preparation guidelines

To be accepted, trees must be completely free of ornaments, lights, tinsel, flocking and stands. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half. Bagged trees will not be accepted, and live wreaths, garlands or plants are excluded from the program.

Residents may also place trees next to their brush pile for curbside collection in accordance with the city’s Brush and Bulk Item Collection Schedule.

Environmental impact

City officials said recycling Christmas trees helps reduce landfill waste and supports Edinburg’s broader sustainability goals by turning holiday greenery into usable mulch.
