Edinburg, TX – Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District campuses are returning to normal operations this week following the Christmas break, with district officials reminding motorists to use caution as students head back to class.
Teachers and staff across the district returned to work Monday, Jan. 5, for a planning and preparation day. Students are scheduled to return to classrooms on Tuesday, Jan. 6, marking the start of the spring semester.
Staff prepares for spring semester
District officials said the Jan. 5 workday allowed educators and support staff time to prepare lesson plans, organize classrooms and complete administrative responsibilities ahead of students’ return. The day also provides an opportunity for staff coordination and readiness after the winter break.
The return of students on Jan. 6 resumes regular instructional schedules across all Edinburg CISD campuses.
Drivers urged to watch for students
With buses back on the road and children walking to and from school, the district is urging drivers to remain alert in school zones and residential areas. Officials reminded motorists to reduce speed, obey posted school zone signage and stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights.
District leaders noted that increased traffic congestion is common during the first days back from break and encouraged parents and drivers to allow extra travel time during morning and afternoon commutes.

The return dates are outlined in the official academic calendar approved by the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees. Families are encouraged to review the calendar for upcoming holidays, early release days and other important dates during the spring semester.
