ECISD Board pushes for Community Advisory Committee to give families a stronger voice

Edinburg, TX – Edinburg CISD will soon launch a Community Advisory Committee designed to give parents and residents a more formal role in shaping district priorities.
Board President xavier Salinas placed the item on the superintendent’s report at the Dec. 9th regular meeting, saying it ties into upcoming “Board Alliance” governance training and broader efforts to hear directly from the community. The committee would provide feedback on topics such as communication, safety, academic programs and board practices.
Trustees discussed the importance of using the committee to highlight “the good things that are going on” in the district while also listening to concerns about enrollment, mental health and facilities.
In a related action item, the board scheduled discussion and a vote on assigning a community member to serve on the committee. Trustees are expected to finalize the committee’s composition and meeting schedule in early 2026.
The advisory group will operate alongside regular public-comment periods at board meetings, which allow residents to address trustees on agenda and non-agenda items.
