Early Voting Opens For Edinburg Council Runoff Election

Edinburg, TX – Early voting opened this week as Edinburg voters will return to the polls on Saturday, Dec. 13, to decide the winner of the runoff election for the City Council Place 2 position. The race features incumbent Jason de Leon facing challenger Moises Segovia.

Neither candidate secured a majority during the November general election, prompting the runoff to determine who will fill the council seat.

Early voting began Monday, Dec. 1, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can also cast ballots on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 8 and 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Three early voting sites will be open:

  • Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department, Gaming Room, 315 E. Mark S. Peña Dr.
  • Elections Annex Building, Annex Room (rear entrance), 317 N. Closner Blvd.
  • UTRGV ESTAC Lounge, 1201 W. University Dr.

The Elections Annex Building is designated as the main early voting location.

On Election Day, Saturday, Dec. 13, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations:

  1. Canterbury Elementary School, 2821 W. Canton Rd., Gymnasium
  2. Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department, 315 E. Mark S. Peña Dr., Gaming Room
  3. Elections Annex Building, 317 N. Closner Blvd., Annex Room
  4. UTRGV, 1201 W. University Dr., ESTAC Lounge

The Place 2 seat is one of four on the Edinburg City Council, which governs policy decisions for the growing city of more than 100,000 residents.
