Teen Detained After Threat Against Vanguard Academy; Investigation Ongoing

Staff Report
EDINBURG TX – A 14-year-old girl has been detained in connection with a threat made against Vanguard Academy, authorities confirmed. The juvenile, an incoming freshman at the school, is in the process of being admitted to a juvenile detention facility.
Police said the suspect had a prior incident on June 16, when she allegedly brought a kitchen knife to Barrientes Middle School with the intent to engage in a physical altercation. She was detained for that separate incident on June 23.
The investigation into the most recent threat remains ongoing.
“As we head into another school year, I want the community to know that we take any threat against our schools extremely seriously,” said Police Chief Jaime Ayala. “Student safety is our top priority, and we will continue to act swiftly and decisively to ensure our schools remain safe spaces for learning.”
