Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX — The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), in partnership with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and the City of Edinburg 2040 Initiative, has officially launched Bank on INT!, a paid internship program aimed at connecting business students with local banks.
The program was introduced during a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held May 16 at the Edinburg City Council Chambers. Bank on INT! will provide eight undergraduate business students with hands-on experience in the banking sector, with placements at Freedom Bank, Rio Bank, Texas National Bank, Lone Star National Bank, and Greater State Bank. The 10-week program, which runs from June 9 to August 22, 2025, aligns with UTRGV’s Summer III semester.
“This internship program is an investment in our students and our community’s future,” said Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. “Bank on INT! exemplifies the vision behind our Edinburg 2040 initiative, equipping young professionals with the tools to succeed while strengthening the financial sector.”
Participating students will work on meaningful projects, receive mentorship, and earn a competitive wage funded by the participating banks, with no financial contribution required from the City or EEDC. EEDC Executive Director Raudel Garza emphasized that the initiative supports both workforce development and talent retention in South Texas.
