EDINBURG, Texas — The City of Edinburg has partnered with UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Brownsville and the City of Brownsville to bring The Challenge-RGV 2025, a weight-loss and healthy lifestyle program, to Hidalgo County residents.

Now in its 16th season, The Challenge-RGV equips participants with tools and resources to make lasting lifestyle changes over a three-month period. The program offers free access to gyms, exercise classes, health screenings, cooking workshops, and outdoor fitness activities.

A kickoff press conference is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at Edinburg City Hall, located at 415 W. University Drive.

“We are thrilled to host The Challenge-RGV in Edinburg,” said Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. “This initiative reflects our city’s dedication to promoting health and well-being by offering residents across the Valley opportunities for sustainable lifestyle changes.”

Monetary incentives and prizes will be awarded to individuals and teams who achieve the highest percentage of weight loss during the program, which runs from January through April. Competitions will be held in individual, small-team, and large-team categories.

Participants will also have access to weekly motivational text messages and online support groups to help them stay on track with their goals.
