Edinburg Chamber Celebrates Leaders at Installation & Awards Banquet

Edinburg, TX, Dec. 5, 2023 — The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce honored Sam Saldivar and Sabrina Walker-Hernandez as its 2023 Man and Woman of the Year at the Annual Installation & Awards Banquet in November. The event, held at the Region One Service Center, 1900 W Schunior St., showcased their remarkable contributions to the community.
Under the theme “Hollywood Glamour,” the gala served as a platform to introduce Kelly Salazar, representing Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, as the incoming President. It also acknowledged Mario Lizcano from DHR Health as the outgoing President of the Board for the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, the event paid tribute to the 2023 award recipients, celebrating their exceptional achievements.
Award Recipients:
2023 Man of the Year – Sam Saldivar
Sam Saldivar, a Harlingen native, began his career in Edinburg in 1961, representing the American National Life Insurance Company and later dedicating 57 years to State Farm Insurance. Beyond his professional endeavors, Saldivar devoted extensive time and commitment to various organizations, showcasing his unwavering dedication and service.
2023 Woman of the Year – Sabrina Walker-Hernandez
Sabrina Walker-Hernandez, with a background in the United States Army, dedicated 20 years of her life to the Boys & Girls Clubs, making a significant impact on the Rio Grande Valley’s non-profit sector. Her achievements include boosting operational revenue, planning and overseeing a $12 million capital campaign, and establishing a substantial endowment. Her resilience and determination are hallmarks of her character.
2023 Outstanding Leader – Judge Omar Maldonado
Judge Omar Maldonado, a proud Edinburg native and owner of Barrel House Kitchen, demonstrated exceptional leadership beyond the courtroom. He initiated a meal program targeting children in need, distributing over 1,600 meals in collaboration with the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.
2023 Ambassador of the Year – Karla Garcia
Karla Garcia, Director of Community Outreach at DHR Health, received the Ambassador of the Year award for her exceptional contributions, including leading fundraising efforts and participating in various community organizations.
