ECISD Athletic Director Retiring, Board Considering Replacement This Thursday

Edinburg Texas, Dec. 12, 2023 — Edinburg CISD Athletic Director Rogelio “Roy” Garza will be retiring after almost ten years in the position and more than 30 years in education.
“It’s time,” Garza said of his announced retirement set for Jan. 31, 2024. The Edinburg Advocate will have an interview next week with Coach Garza to talk about his long career in education and in sports.
The ECISD Board announced a Special Called Board Meeting for this Thursday, Dec. 14, at 3:00 pm at the Board Room at the Central Administration Building at 411 N. 8th Street in Edinburg. The agenda calls for the Board to go into executive session to discuss “Employment for Director of Athletics.” Once back in public session, the Board will consider taking action on the matter.
The ECISD Personnel Department posted the opening at the end of November.
The position oversees approximately 6,000 student/athletes participating in athletics in grades seven through twelve and more than 350 athletic positions that include, administrative staff, coaches, athletic trainers, and support personnel that help the athletic teams provide the guidance and leadership necessary to maintain successful programs.
