UPDATE: Additional Suspect Arrested In Night Club Shooting, One Still At Large

UPDATE: Suspect Jose Angle Favela was arrested this afternoon by Hidalgo County Sheriff’s staff.

Edinburg, Texas, August 10, 2023 – Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Investigators have identified two additional suspects in the shooting at El Antro nightclub that left seven people wounded. 

The Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for the arrest of Jose Angel Favela (DOB 03/28/2005) and Danny Lee Cazares (DOB 04/19/2002) for Criminal Attempted Capital Murder of Multiple Persons. Sheriff’s deputies cautioned that these individuals should be considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators have not released information on a motive for the shooting. They did not provide any background information on Favela and Cazarez.

On Monday, August 7, at approximately 4:30 am, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of shots fired at the 5100 block of Raul Longoria Road in Edinburg to the El Antro Nightclub.

Deputies discovered a total of seven gunshot wound victims, who were transported to a local hospital. Five of the victims have been released from the hospital, and two victims are still hospitalized in stable condition. 

At the time, Sheriff investigators identified 17-year-old Samuel Lopez from San Juan, Texas as the person responsible for the shooting. According to Investigators, Lopez’s brother turned him in after recognizing him and his car in media releases.

Lopez’s was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Deputies and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Justice of the Peace Jerry Munoz set a $3.5 million dollar bond on Lopez and charged him with Criminal Attempted Capital Murder of Multiple Persons.
