Edinburg Sales Tax Revenue Slows As Retail Goes Through Annual Spring Slowdown
Edinburg TX, June 9, 2023 — Edinburg’s sales tax revenues slowed down in April of this year as the seasonal slowdown in retails sales set in after the start of the year. Edinburg’s April 2023 sales increased only 0.1% compared to March of last year.

In all, Edinburg received $2,915,548.81 this month compared to $2,912,559.50 in June of last year. However, in the first four months of the year, from January through April, Edinburg maintained a strong retail base, increasing 5.86%, from $17.1M in the same period last year to $18.2M this year.
County sales losing ground
In comparison, Hidalgo County cities as a whole showed less strength overall. The county’s total for April 2023 were actually down by 2.1% compared to April of 2022. For the January through April period, the county’s total sales were up 6.7%.
These revenues are based on sales made in April by businesses that report tax monthly.
