EDINBURG TX — The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is ramping up efforts to identify and support migrant students through direct neighborhood outreach as part of its Migrant Neighborhood Identification and Recruitment Program.

District officials will visit local neighborhoods Monday Feb. 24, to connect with migrant families, many of whom have recently returned to the area after seasonal agricultural work. The outreach aims to ensure students have access to essential educational resources and services.

“Our goal is to identify students who have been working with their families in agriculture and provide them with the support they may otherwise miss,” said Patricio Escamilla, ECISD’s Migrant Education Program Coordinator.

Before the neighborhood visits, the district will hold a news conference at 9:30 a.m. at the Flores/Zapata Elementary Library, 14000 N. Rooth Rd., where migrant program directors will be available to speak with the media starting at 9:15 a.m.

The Migrant Education Program helps bridge gaps in education for students whose schooling is disrupted by migratory work, offering services like tutoring, counseling, and access to technology.

For more information, contact Patricio Escamilla at (956) 289-2300, ext. 2103, or Flores/Zapata Elementary School Principal Karla De Luna.
