Staff Report
EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce is launching a two-day membership drive on Feb. 11-12 as it prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The initiative aims to expand the Chamber’s membership base while highlighting its century-long contributions to the city’s economic growth.
Currently serving 662 members, the Chamber has set an ambitious goal of reaching between 900 and 1,000 members in its centennial year. The drive will bring together community leaders from various sectors to promote the Chamber’s impact and encourage businesses to join.
“This membership drive is a fun and engaging way to educate businesses about the vital role the Chamber plays in the Edinburg community,” said Executive Director Ronnie Larralde. “From economic development to advocacy, we are committed to fostering a thriving business environment.”
Since its founding in 1925, the Chamber has been instrumental in key developments, including the establishment of Pan American University (now UTRGV), the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, and the Hagger Plant. More recently, it played a crucial role in distributing COVID-19 testing kits and resources to local businesses.
“We want the community to recognize that our work goes beyond ribbon cuttings and networking events. We provide essential resources, advocacy, and support to help businesses succeed,” Larralde added.
Membership begins at $250 per year, offering businesses a range of benefits to help them grow and connect. The drive will feature a friendly competition among nine teams led by former Chamber Board Chairs and local leaders, each working to recruit new members and generate support.
“This event will be full of energy, excitement, and good old-fashioned competition as we work together to strengthen our business community,” Larralde said.
