EDINBURG, TX – The American Legion Alfredo Gonzalez Post 408 marked the completion of its building renovations and a newly constructed parking lot during a ceremony on Monday, Dec. 16. The project was funded by Hidalgo County Precinct 4 through the American Rescue Plan Act.
Commissioner Ellie Torres and her staff joined members of Post 408 at their monthly meeting to celebrate the upgrades and recognize the significance of the project.
“These improvements will not only revitalize the space but also create an inviting and dynamic environment that resonates with diverse visitors,” said Acting Commander German C. Garza. “We thank Commissioner Ellie Torres and the team that worked hard to make this a possibility.”
The $77,366 renovation was funded under the American Rescue Plan Act Nonprofit Negative Economic Impacts Program, designed to help nonprofit organizations recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides resources to support organizations serving individuals and families disproportionately affected by the public health crisis.
“It was my great honor to provide funding support for this project, which benefits the honorable men and women and their families who have sacrificed so much for our freedom,” Torres said. “This facility is a vital space for veterans and their loved ones to gather and support one another.”
The renovations aim to modernize the Post 408 facility, ensuring it continues to serve as a hub for veterans and the community for years to come.
