Three Edinburg Police Employees Honored at State Law Enforcement Awards

Staff Report

EDINBURG TX – Three members of the Edinburg Police Department were recognized for their outstanding service and bravery at the 2025 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Awards Ceremony, held June 13 at the State Capitol in Austin.

Hosted by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), the annual event honors law enforcement professionals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service.

Elias Martinez, Communications Manager for the Edinburg Police Department, received the Public Service Award for implementing the Intrado Multimedia-to-911 software, which allows emergency callers to transmit live video directly to dispatchers. The system has significantly improved emergency response capabilities and community safety.

Officers Jose Ramos III and Robert Lee Garcia were presented with the Valor Award for their heroic actions on March 9, 2024, when they rescued a six-year-old child from a burning home. The officers entered the smoke-filled house without hesitation and carried the child to safety. They had previously received Lifesaving Awards from both the Edinburg Police and Fire Departments for their actions.

“These awards are not just recognition—they’re a reminder of the exceptional character, dedication, and courage that define our department,” said Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala.
