Texas Sales Tax Holidays for Water-Efficient, ENERGY STAR Products Set for May 24-26

Staff Report

AUSTIN, TX — Texas shoppers can save on select water-efficient and energy-efficient products during the state’s annual sales tax holidays, scheduled for Saturday, May 24, through Monday, May 26, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. The holidays, created by the Texas Legislature, are expected to save consumers $15.2 million in state and local sales tax.

During the Water-Efficient Products Sales Tax Holiday, products labeled with the WaterSense® logo can be purchased tax-free for personal or business use. Eligible items include showerheads, bathroom sink faucets, toilets, urinals, and irrigation controls. Lawn and garden products such as soaker hoses, moisture controls, mulch, and drought-resistant plants also qualify for tax exemption when purchased for residential use.

The ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday offers tax-free purchases of energy-efficient appliances and products displaying the ENERGY STAR logo, including air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less, refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less, ceiling fans, dishwashers, dehumidifiers, clothes washers, and energy-saving light bulbs.

“These tax holidays give Texans a chance to upgrade to more efficient appliances and systems that can reduce strain on power grids and conserve water while lowering utility bills,” Hegar said.
