Edinburg to Honor Fallen Heroes at Memorial Day Ceremony

EDINBURG, TX — The City of Edinburg will hold a Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony to honor fallen service members on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium, 200 N. 7th Street.

The event will include musical tributes, moments of reflection, and a presentation of the Battlefield Cross by the Edinburg High School JROTC Honor Guard under the direction of SFC (Ret.) Micaela Reyes. American Legion Post 408 members will read the names of Edinburg’s fallen service members, spanning conflicts from World War I to the present.

A moment of silence will also be observed in memory of Dolia Gonzalez, the mother of Sgt. Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, Edinburg’s Medal of Honor recipient.

Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “Memorial Day is a sacred time for our community to come together, reflect, and honor those who gave everything for our freedom.”

The ceremony is free and open to the public, with a special invitation extended to the families of Edinburg’s 90 fallen service members.
