EDINBURG, TX – The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees this week placed Superintendent Mario Salinas on five days of paid administrative leave and issued a reprimand following a special meeting.
During a special called meeting on Wednesday, May 21, the Board of Trustees heard complaints from parents with regard to an incident at Edinburg North High School when a student was discovered to have brought a gun to campus. This was not the first time criticism had been directed at Salinas, along with criticism of the school district’s responses to several other incidents, including the flooding at Canterbury Elementary. The May 13th Board meeting brought out extensive criticisms from both the public and Board members on a variety of issues.
The unanimous decision came after an executive session lasting about an hour.
The Board members made no comments about the action.
