Hidalgo County DA to Host ‘Chalk the Walk’ Event Promoting Child Abuse Awareness

Staff Report
EDINBURG TX – The Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office will host a community event this Saturday aimed at raising awareness of child abuse prevention through creative expression.
The “Chalk the Walk” event will take place April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at 100 East Cano Street in downtown Edinburg. Community members are invited to take part by drawing inspirational messages and artwork using sidewalk chalk in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
“We’d like to invite the entire community out for a good time, and to raise awareness on child abuse while drawing inspiration from sidewalk art,” said District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios in a statement. “Don’t miss the chance to be part of this colorful and creative event.”
The event is free and open to the public. Chalk supplies will be provided, though participants are also welcome to bring their own.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed every April nationwide to raise awareness and encourage communities to take action to protect children. The DA’s office is using this event as a way to promote messages of hope, optimism, and community engagement through sidewalk art.
