Second Suspect Arrested in Edinburg Intoxication Assault and Racing Case

EDINBURG, Texas — Edinburg police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a major rollover crash and suspected street racing incident that occurred early March 16, leaving a passenger injured.
Investigators identified the driver of a second vehicle involved in the crash as 23-year-old Jorge Hugo Contreras of Edinburg, the cousin of the initial suspect, 21-year-old Juan Carlos Contreras. Jorge Hugo Contreras was taken into custody Tuesday and arraigned on racing charges. His bond was set at $50,000.
The initial crash happened around 3:12 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Sugar Road. Police said Juan Carlos Contreras lost control of a 1992 Ford Mustang, causing the vehicle to roll over and eject a passenger, 22-year-old Faith Gonzalez. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Juan Carlos Contreras was previously arraigned on charges of racing and intoxication assault, with bond set at $200,000. He remains hospitalized and is expected to face formal charges upon release.
