Edinburg’s 12th Annual FridaFest to Celebrate Art, Culture, and Women’s Empowerment

Staff Report

EDINBURG TX — The City of Edinburg invites the community to its 12th annual FridaFest, a vibrant celebration of art, music, and women’s empowerment, taking place Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in front of the Arts, Culture & Events Center at 315 W. McIntyre St.

The free, family-friendly event honors the legacy of Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most celebrated artists, while promoting creativity, wellness, and cultural pride. Downtown Edinburg will come alive with live music, folkloric performances, an interactive chalk art exhibit, and Frida-inspired models.

Festival Highlights

This year’s FridaFest will feature two dynamic stages with performances by Alejandra y sus Diamantes, La Gran Sonora, and Tejano Queen Forever, a Selena Tribute Band. Festivalgoers can enjoy a petting zoo, food trucks, and local vendors offering unique finds and delicious eats.

Attendees are encouraged to dress as Frida Kahlo to embrace the spirit of the event. The FridaRiders Caravan, in collaboration with the South Texas Motorcycle Museum, returns this year, inviting female riders to participate. A People’s Choice contest will award prizes for the best-dressed Frida Riders.

About Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is celebrated for her resilience, artistic legacy, and role as a feminist icon. Despite facing lifelong health struggles, she created some of the most iconic self-portraits in art history. Kahlo’s work, deeply rooted in Mexican culture, gender identity, and disability advocacy, continues to inspire generations worldwide.

FridaFest aims to send a powerful message to future generations of women—that their voices, dreams, and aspirations are valid and valuable.
