Barricaded Suspect Arrested After Assault at Edinburg Apartment

EDINBURG, Texas — A man was arrested Saturday evening after an argument escalated into a violent incident at an Edinburg apartment complex. Suspect was arraigned. Bond was set at $50,000.
Officers with the Edinburg Police Department responded at approximately 6:39 p.m. to a report of an assault at an apartment in the 2500 block of Fatima.
According to police, a female resident invited 36-year-old Johnny Pedro Capetillo, a male acquaintance, to her apartment. An argument ensued, during which Capetillo allegedly threatened the woman by holding a kitchen knife to her chest and making threats to kill her.
The woman was able to leave the apartment unharmed while officers established a perimeter around the area. Capetillo reportedly barricaded himself in the victim’s bedroom.
Following negotiations, Capetillo surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody without further incident. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
