Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX – The Edinburg Police Department has been nationally recognized for its outstanding efforts in the National Night Out (NNO) program, securing 9th place in the 100,000-300,000 population category in a competition sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. This achievement highlights the department’s commitment to strengthening police-community partnerships and fostering public safety.
The annual National Night Out campaign encourages collaboration between law enforcement and residents through events that promote neighborhood unity. More than 30 cities across the country competed for the top 10 honors in this year’s program, with Edinburg distinguishing itself among entrants that included Pasadena, California, and Suffolk, Virginia. Notably, Edinburg was one of only five Texas cities to earn a top 10 spot.
The Edinburg Police Department’s submission to the competition included a comprehensive booklet detailing its year-long NNO activities and the city’s main event, held on August 6th at Promenade Park Amphitheater. The event featured live entertainment by Tropical Panama, free carnival rides, moon jumps, a car show, and a foam party, as well as safety demonstrations and interactive exhibits designed to engage residents and promote public safety awareness.
“This recognition reflects a year-long effort to connect with our community,” said Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala. “Creating the in-depth booklet allowed us to showcase our ongoing initiatives to engage with residents. To be ranked among the best in the nation is a true honor and a testament to the collaborative spirit of Edinburg.”
Edinburg’s National Night Out program also included safety demonstrations, community outreach efforts, and events throughout the year aimed at fostering trust and collaboration between law enforcement and residents.
This national recognition underscores the dedication of the Edinburg Police Department and the active participation of community members, reaffirming their shared commitment to making Edinburg a safer, more connected place to live.
