Precinct 4 Opens Registration for 3rd Annual Milo Ponce Men’s Health 4K

By Arnoldo Mata

EDINBURG, Texas — Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres announced the opening of registration for the 3rd Annual Milo Ponce Men’s Health 4K. The event, which is free to the community, will be held on June 29 at Milo Ponce Park. The first 160 registered runners will receive a shirt and medal.

This race aims to raise awareness about men’s health, a crucial issue often overlooked. Participants will enjoy a fun run/walk race and a health fair featuring booths from county entities, departments, local organizations, and businesses providing valuable health information. The event will also include music, Zumba, snacks, and more, making it a family-friendly occasion with activities for all ages.

“Every year, we see over 250 registered runners, and that number continues to grow,” said Commissioner Torres. “This event began as a suggestion from some of my staff who participate in various 5Ks. We realized there were no races dedicated to raising awareness for men’s health, so we decided to lead the way in informing our community about its importance.”

Event Details:

  • Date: June 29, 2024
  • Time: Race starts at 8 a.m., with registration beginning at 7 a.m. for those not pre-registered
  • Location: Milo Ponce Park, 3516 E. FM2812, Edinburg, Texas

The Milo Ponce Men’s Health 4K is a free event, but all participants must register and sign a waiver. Registration is available online or in person on the day of the event. Children are welcome to participate, emphasizing the event’s inclusive nature and community focus.

In addition to the race, the health fair will provide attendees with access to a variety of health resources and screenings. Local healthcare providers and organizations will be on hand to offer blood pressure checks, diabetes screenings, and other health assessments. These services aim to encourage preventive care and early detection of health issues, aligning with the event’s mission to improve men’s health outcomes in the community.

Participants and attendees can look forward to a festive atmosphere with live music, courtesy of local bands, and a Zumba session to get everyone warmed up before the race. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be available, emphasizing the event’s focus on overall well-being.

Commissioner Torres highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for the event, noting that it has become a staple in the local calendar. “The Milo Ponce Men’s Health 4K is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of health and community. We are proud to host this event and look forward to seeing even more participants this year,” she said.

The event also serves as an opportunity for local businesses and organizations to showcase their commitment to community health. Sponsors and vendors play a crucial role in the event’s success, providing support and resources that enhance the experience for all attendees.
