Shooting Incident Shakes Rural Edinburg Community

Edinburg, TX, January 11, 2024 — A quiet night turned tragic on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, as deputies responded to a shooting incident in the 5600 block of Wakita Dr., located in rural Edinburg, Texas.

Responding swiftly to the call at 10:28 pm, deputies discovered an unresponsive male subject with multiple gunshot wounds upon their arrival. Despite the efforts of paramedics at the scene, the man was pronounced deceased.

Major Crime Investigators and Crime Scene Specialists were on-site, conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence to aid in identifying the suspect(s). The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Michael Daniel Arevalo, a resident of Edinburg, Texas. In response to the incident, a local Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy to further investigate the circumstances surrounding Arevalo’s untimely death.
