From Staff Reports
Hidalgo County Texas, Dec. 11, 2023 — Judge Nereida Lopez-Singleterry filed to run for the position of Judge of Hidalgo County’s 476th District Court. She formally filed the necessary paperwork with the Hidalgo County Democratic Party to secure her place on the ballot for the 2024 Democratic Primary.
Having initially declared her candidacy earlier this year, Judge Lopez-Singleterry said she believes that her extensive experience, unwavering integrity, and diligent work ethic uniquely position her as the ideal candidate for this judicial role.
“I am grateful and thrilled at the opportunity to serve the remarkable families of Hidalgo County,” Lopez-Singleterry said. “My years of experience, commitment to integrity, and a strong work ethic provide me with a distinctive perspective. I am confident that these qualities make me the most qualified candidate for this position,” she added.
Judge Lopez-Singleterry said she brought a wealth of expertise from her career in the legal and judicial spheres to the position. With thirteen years of practice as an attorney, she currently manages a private practice representing clients across various legal domains. Her current role as Municipal Judge for the City of San Juan, coupled with her past service as an Associate Judge of Master Court for Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, and Starr counties, as well as a public defender in Hidalgo County, enrich her understanding of the intricacies of the legal system.
Her experience spans the litigation and adjudication of numerous civil, criminal, and family law cases, providing her with a well-rounded perspective that she aims to bring to the 476th District Court.
“As your Judge of the 476th District Court, I will serve with the utmost respect and integrity. My commitment is to use my best judgment to administer justice fairly and equitably, always in the best interest of Hidalgo County families,” she affirmed.
The Democratic Primary election is scheduled to take place in March 2024. Governor Greg Abbott appointed attorney Ysmael D. Fonseca in March of this year as judge of the newly created 476th District Court. Fonseca announced he is running for Place 4 on the 13th Court of Appeals.
